While we could watch the Longines Global Champions Tour of St. Tropez and the CSIO5* Nations Cup of St. Gallen on European soil, in Canada the CSIO5* show of Vancouver-Langley took place last weekend. The American rider Kent Farrington and his 10-year-old chestnut gelding Landon (ex Crack de Nyze Z – Comilfo Plus Z x Quadrillo – F: Danny Nijs) again showed their good form with a clear round during the CSIO5* Nations Cup, but the the most striking name was that of the 12-year-old mare The Diamant Rose Z, a daughter of Toulon and Jaunty Daredevil who was bred in the Netherlands by J. Kemps. The Diamant Rose Z appeared at the start in Vancouver under the saddle of the Brazilian rider Santiago Lambre and on Saturday the became the winners of the CSI2* GP. In a jump-off for which 5 combinations were able to qualify, they were the first combination to start again and they immediately set the tone with a clear round in 36.61 seconds.
Santiago Lambre: “She’s very quick, and when I finished the jump off I knew I’d be at least in the top two. She’s very competitive at this level and I’m trying to keep her in the speed classes; that’s her specialty. She looks hot, but she’s easy to ride. I ride her in a really soft rubber bit. When I watch the videos, it looks harder than it is!”
The CSIO5* GP took place the day before and here we also saw a Zangersheide horse on the podium. The 3rd place here went to the Canadian lady rider Samantha Buirs with the 10-year-old stallion Chic d'Emma Z, a son of Cigaret JVH Z and Unique II Drum vh Juxschot who was bred by Stal Voerman and Luc Matthijssen. Buirs and Chic d’Emma Z were one of the 4 combinations that managed to qualify for the jump-off.
Also on Friday, Buirs' compatriot Vanessa Mannix managed to jump to a podium place with the 12-year-old mare Carmela Z (Candillo Z x Caretano Z – B: F. Verhagen). During the CSIO5* 1.45m class they managed to keep it clear in both the basic round and the jump-off and this performance was good for a 3rd place in the ranking. The American lady rider Mandy Porter followed in 4th place in this class with the 10-year-old gelding Cadeau Z (Carmena Z x Quatrro B – B: Anja Aerts). They also managed to keep all the poles in the cups twice.
During the CSI2* 1.45m class on Friday, the Canadian lady rider Erynn Ballard was placed with the 11-year-old stallion Corner Pocket Z (Cornet Obolensky x Lux Z – B: Farm Turnabout). They also managed to ensure a flawless performance twice and they also achieved a 4th place in the ranking.
Finally, during the opening day on Thursday, the American lady rider Ashley Vogel managed to secure a victory with the 14-year-old chestnut mare Bellissimo Z (Bamako de Muze x Chin Chin – B: Patrick Sebrechts), the former GP horse of the Belgian rider Thibeau Spits. During the CSIO5* 1.45m class, Vogel and Bellissimo Z finished in 58.81 seconds, making them the only combination that managed to stay under 60 seconds.
