While we could enjoy the second World Cup leg of the season in Helsinki on European soil, a five-star show was also on the program on American soil with the show of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. Here too, the victory during the CSI5* GP colored blue and yellow and this was achieved by the Irish rider Shane Sweetnam with the 9-year-old chestnut gelding Cjoxx Z, a son of Comme Il Faut and Tlaloc la Silla who was bred in the Netherlands by Joop Timmer and with whom Sweetnam won a 1.45m class in Lexington last month. Sweetnam and Cjoxx Z started their show in San Miguel de Allende with a 7th place during the 1.40m class on Thursday and were one of the 8 combinations that managed to qualify for the jump-off during the CSI5* GP on Saturday. They finished in 43.03 seconds, which put them almost 2 full seconds ahead of the competition!
Shane Sweetnam: “This was a great win for Cjoxx Z. I had a good feeling that we had a big chance this weekend. He has been very consistent since we started together and I am very happy that we could win such a big Grand Prix already.”
Next to the CSI5* competition, a CSI2* competition also took place in San Miguel de Allende and in that the Belgian rider Grégory Wathelet jumped into the picture with the 12-year-old mare Berline du Maillet Z, a daughter of Berlin and Action-Breaker who was bred by Laurent Thirion and Delphine Mambour. For example, Wathelet and Berline du Maillet Z became the winners of the 1.45m class on Friday. During both the 1st phase and the 2nd phase they managed to keep all the poles in the cups and with a finishing time of 32.54 seconds they were just under a full second ahead of the competition.
But also yesterday during the CSI2* GP there was a leading role for Wathelet and Berline du Maillet Z. After a flawless basic round, they were among the 15 combinations that managed to qualify for the jump-off and this time they secured a 2nd place in the the rankings.
Furthermore, the Mexican lady rider Luciana Roberta Gonzalez Guerra was also placed twice with the 12-year-old mare Cardenta Z, a daughter of Cardento VDL and Quidam de Rêvel who was born at the home of breeder Tony Foriers as Cardenta 2000 Z. Gonzalez Guerra and Cardenta started their show on Thursday with a 3rd place during the 1.35m class and a day later an 8th place in the rankings followed during another 1.35m class.
