Holiday lights and packed stands set the stage for the CSI3* Lugano Diamonds Grand Prix during Week I of the 2023 December Show Series at World Equestrian Center, Ocala. The victory during this GP colored blue and yellow and the Swiss rider Beat Mändli took care of this with the 9-year-old grey gelding Amiro B Z, a son of our grey stallion Asca Z and Concreto, who was bred by Noella Steegen and Ruddy Bogaerts.
Mändli and Amiro B Z have had a great weekend in Ocala. The days before, they already finished 4th during the 1.45m class on Wednesday and 9th during the 1.50m class on Thursday, but they saved the best for the CSI3* GP on Saturday evening. After a flawless basic round, they were among the 15 combinations that managed to qualify for the decisive jump-off. They entered the ring again as the 4th combination and managed to repeat that flawless performance from the basic round. They finished in 41.15 seconds and with that performance they outclassed the competition.
Beat Mändli: “I didn’t really have a plan going into the jump-off. When you’re early to go in the order and have a lot of top riders behind you, there’s no other choice than to just try your best and be as fast as possible without over cooking it. This is actually our first grand prix jump-off. I came here to get him ready for the winter circuit ahead, and I did not expect to win. He felt amazing tonight and handled the crowd very well. I was surprised to see so many people, it was nice to ride and a really fun evening. I have really high hopes for him in the future.”
Another combination that jumped into the picture in Ocala was the New Zealand rider Sharn Wordley with the 9-year-old gelding Brin d'Or de Haute Melen Z, a son of Bamako de Muze and Baloubet du Rouet who was bred by Georges Trulemans. Wordley and Brin d'Or de Haute Melen Z were also placed 3 times in 3 days. They started their show with a 3rd place during the 1.45m class on Wednesday, followed by a 6th place during the 1.50m class on Thursday and ended their show with a 9th place during the CSI3* GP on Saturday.
Finally, Wordley's compatriot Uma O'Neill also jumped into the prizes with her 16-year-old grey stallion Clockwise Of Greenhill Z (Clearway x Caretino - B: Philip Gysbrechts - Greenhill Stables), who is also approved for Studbook Zangersheide. During the 1.40m high speed class on Thursday, O'Neill and Clockwise Of Greenhill Z provided a clear round and this performance earned them a 8th place in the rankings.
