The victory of the American rider Kent Farrington and the Comilfo Plus Z son Landon (ex Crack de Nyze Z) during the CSIO5* GP of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, naturally received the most attention in recent days, but also one of our other stallions managed to deliver a GP winner last weekend. At the Hubside Jumping of Grimaud on the Gulf of St. Tropez, the CSI3* GP was won by the Italian rider Lorenzo de Luca with the 15-year-old grey gelding Carlson 86, a son of our grey stallion Colorit Z and Auftritt who was bred in Germany by Isaac Klaus. De Luca and Carlson 86 jumped already to a 5th place on Friday during the 1.50m high Longines Ranking class and were one of the 10 combinations that managed to qualify for the jump-off during the CSI3* GP. They started again as the 4th combination and with a clear round in 40.93 seconds they secured the victory.
But also the 2nd place during this CSI3* GP got a serious blue/yellow touch thanks to the Swedish lady rider Angelica Augustsson Zanotelli and her 13-year-old top mare Kalinka van de Nachtegaele, a daughter of Epleaser Z and Cicero Z who was bred by Marcel Jacobs. Augustsson Zanotelli and Kalinka van de Nachtegaele also managed to ensure a clear round in the jump-off, but with a time of 41.01 seconds they ended up 8 hundredths of a second short of De Luca and Carlson 86.
Next to the victory of De Luca and Carlson 86, several other Zangersheide horses also performed well in St. Tropez. For example, during the CSI2* 1.40m class on Sunday there was a victory for the Irish rider Trevor Breen with the 9-year-old grey mare Cindy Z, a daughter of Clarimo and Casall who was bred in the Netherlands by Martinus van der Bruggen and who is also a reference of our Zangersheide Quality Auction. Breen and Cindy Z already jumped to a 4th place on Friday during a 1.35m class and this time they were almost 1.5 seconds ahead of the competition with a clear 2nd phase in 35.57 seconds.
On Saturday we also got a blue/yellow victory, thanks to the French lady rider Penelope Leprévost with the 9-year-old chestnut mare Fantasy de la Roque Z, a daughter of For Hero de Hus and Heartbreaker who was bred by Alexandrine Hecart. During the 1.45m Longines Ranking class, Leprévost and Fantasy de la Roque Z were one of the 10 combinations that managed to qualify for the jump-off and this time they managed to beat the competition after they had to settle for 2nd place in the ranking the day before.
Also on Saturday, the Belgian rider Wilm Vermeir took a 2nd place with the 8-year-old mare Dirina O.H. Z (Dicasi O.H. x Clarimo – B: Guido Op 't Eynde). During the 1.45m main class of the CSI2* competition they remained clear in both the 1st and the 2nd phase and in the end they only had to tolerate the Italian rider Roberto Previtali (Bellyne de Beauval).
Furthermore, Previtali's compatriot Emanuele Gaudiano was also placed in this class with the 10-year-old stallion Cor Vd Kattevennen Z (Cornet Obolensky x Heartbreaker - B: BVBA Spronken), with whom he won the 1.35m class the day before. Gaudiano and Cor Vd Kattevennen Z managed to do it even faster in the 2nd phase than Vermeir and Dirina O.H. Z, but due to a fault along the way they had to settle for 10th place in the ranking.
During the 1.45m Longines Ranking class of the CSI3* competition on Friday, we saw a second Zangersheide horse on the podium next to Leprévost and Fantasy de la Roque Z. The 3rd place went to the Dutch lady rider Stefanie Carroll with the 9-year-old gelding Explosion vh Legita Hof Z (Elvis Ter Putte x For Pleasure – B: Eddy Guisson). They also managed to keep all the poles in the cups in both the basic round and the jump-off. Earlier on Friday, the Belgian lady rider Emilie Conter managed to jump to a top 5 ranking with the 9-year-old mare Trixie Z (Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z x Regilio – B: Hugo De Witte). They remained clear twice during the CSI3* 1.50m class and this performance was good for a 4th place in the ranking. Finally, during the CSI2* 1.45m class, Lorenzo de Luca jumped into the spotlight again with the 9-year-old mare Promise Z (Gestion Priamus Z x Graf Grannus – B: Sundblad). She secured a 6th place after also a double clear round.
