Bronze for Calvino II de Nyze Z in the CSI4* GP of Moerzeke

Last weekend, the Sea Coast Stables of Alain Cloet and Gudrun Patteet in Moerzeke were the setting for the first edition of the prestigious Equestrian Cup, a collaboration with the Hubside Jumping in St. Tropez. The highlight of the weekend was the CSI4* GP on Sunday afternoon, in which there was no less than 100,000 euros in prize money to be distributed. Course designer Eddy Geysemans and his team build a tough basic round, because of the 39 combinations that appeared in the ring, only 3 combinations managed to stay clear and so qualified for the jump-off. One of those 3 was vice-Belgian Champion Thibeau Spits with the 9-year-old stallion Calvino II de Nyze Z, a son of Calvaro Z and Heartbreaker who was bred by Danny Nijs and who is also approved for Studbook Zangersheide. Spits and Calvino II de Nyze Z, the days before also good for a 10th place during the 1.45m class on Friday and an 8th place during the 1.50m class on Saturday, again managed to ensure a flawless performance in that jump-off and this performance earned them a 3rd place in the ranking.

Next to Thibeau Spits and Calvino II de Nyze Z, also Thomas De Wit and his 12-year-old self-bred stallion Tools DW Z (Toulon x Cicero Z) managed to ensure a top ranking during the CSI4* GP. They had to deal with 4 penalty points in the basic round and this resulted in a 5th place in the ranking. On Friday evening they already finished 8th in the 1.55m main class.

During that 1.55m main class on Friday evening, a podiumplace was reserved for the Brazilian rider Luiz Felipe Cortizo Goncalves de Azevedo Filho with the 9-year-old grey mare Sierra du Piedroux Z, a daughter of Hunter's Scendix and Contefino 2 who was bred by Claude Noiret and with whom he finished 4th last month during the CSI3* GP of Lons le Saunier. De Azevedo Filho and Sierra du Piedroux Z managed to keep it clear during both the first and the second round and with a time of 60.82 seconds they secured a 3rd place in the ranking.

Another striking combination in Moerzeke was the Belgian rider Jérôme Guery with the 10-year-old stallion Quality Star Z, a son of Quality Time TN and Cash who was bred in the Netherlands by Niels de Bruijn. Guery and Quality Star Z appeared in the ring three times and managed to secure a podium place twice. After a 3rd place during the 1.45m class on Friday, a nice 2nd place followed during the 1.50m main class on Saturday.

During the 1.50m class on Thursday, Belgian Champion Nicola Philippaerts secured a victory with the 10-year-old mare Kaartje Z, a daughter of Kannan and Flipper d'Elle who was bred in the Netherlands by Ties Raijmakers. In a class against the clock they finished in 58.73 seconds and with that they were almost a full second ahead of the competition.

For the Austrian lady rider Alessandra Reich and the 9-year-old mare Anyway van het Kervijnhof Z (Alvaro Du Talus – B: Stephan Vandeputte) there was a 7th place in this class. They also managed to keep all the poles in the cups in this class. On Saturday, Reich and Anyway van het Kervijnhof Z confirmed their good form with a 10th place during the 1.50m Speed ​​& Handiness class.

Finally, the Dutch rider Kevin Jochems managed to jump into the picture again with the 8-year-old mare Looks Good de Liebri Z (Lector vd Bisschop x Bentley vd Heffinck – B: De Liebri BVBA). They started their show with a nice 3rd place during the 1.40m class on Thursday and ended with a 7th place during the 1.40m class on Sunday.
