While today we were all looking forward to tonight's Zangersheide stallion presentation, this second day of 'The Zangersheide International' was already particularly well filled. The candidate stallions were presented and judged on the hard floor from 10 a.m. this morning and there were also 4 international jumping classes on the program.

One of those jumping classes was the Henders & Hazel Prize, a 1.50m class against the clock and also the first Longines Ranking Class of the weekend. It was the German rider Tim Rieskamp - Goedeking who took the victory in this main class of the day. Rieskamp - Goedeking had saddled the 12-year-old mare Pepina G (Perigueux x Chacco Blue) for this class and managed to outclass the other 67 combinations with a clear round in 59.92 seconds.

Silver went to the Dutch rider Harrie Smolders, who was accompanied by the 11-year-old mare Deesse de Kerglenn (Mylord Carthago x Crusador). Smolders and Deesse de Kerglenn entered the ring 2 combinations after Rieskamp - Goedeking and Pepina G, but with a finishing time of 60.28 seconds they came up just short of knocking them off the throne. The Danish lady rider Zascha Nygaard Lill also managed to secure a place on the podium in this class. She rode the 11-year-old mare Primavera (Mylord Carthago x Cornet Obolensky) to the finish in 61.02 seconds, which put her in 3rd place in the rankings.

Anthony Wellens triumphs

Before the start of the Longines Ranking Class, there was also a 1.40m class programmed for the CSI4* competition this afternoon and in this class the Belgian national anthem sounded. It was Anthony Wellens who jumped convincingly to the victory with the 9-year-old mare Da Silva Van 't Schaaphof Z, a daughter of Diamant de Semilly and Clinton who was bred by Maurice Van De Walle. Wellens already managed to provide some particularly strong performances at the international shows in recent weeks and this afternoon he managed to keep the competition behind him with a clear round in 54.48 seconds.

With this performance, Wellens was more than 2.5 seconds ahead of the No. 2 in the ranking and that was the German rider Michael Jung, who just last year managed to win the CSI4* GP at The Zangersheide International. Jung counted on the 10-year-old stallion Chalam LS (Chacon LS La Silla x Casetto) and with a finishing time of 57.07 seconds they managed to come closest to Wellens and Da Silva Van 't Schaaphof Z. The 3rd place again colored Belgian thanks to Pieter Kenis and the also 10-year-old mare Obeisse de Regor (Quidam de Rêvel II Z x Darco). Kenis and Obeisse de Regor also managed to keep the 0 on the leaderboard, posting a time of 57.32 seconds.

CSI1* competition

This morning the riders of the CSI1* competition already started again and here it was especially looking forward to the 1.30m qualifier for the CSI1* GP. In this class it was the Dutch lady rider Nicole Caris who managed to claim victory and this with the 8-year-old mare Lynette NH (Arezzo VDL x Vainqueur). Caris and Lynette NH galloped to the finish in 60.02 seconds in this class against the clock, which gave them a slight edge over the competition.

Luxembourg lady rider Lucie Kieffer managed to claim 2nd place in the rankings after Caris and Lynette NH. She was counting on the 15-year-old gelding Frankie's Boy K (Florentianer x Lagavullin), which she managed to pilot to the finish in 60.34 seconds. The Belgian lady rider Paulien Schepers provided an integral female podium with a 3rd place finish. Schepers was also good for a 2nd place in the rankings during the opening day yesterday and with a clear round in 62.94 seconds, she also had a podium place to grab in this GP Qualifier.

3rd time lucky

Paulien Schepers had an excellent morning, as this morning she had already crowned herself the winner of the 1.15m class. Riding the 13-year-old mare Toujours l'Amour (Toulouse x Landfrieden), she rushed to the finish line in 23.79 seconds in the 2nd phase and with that performance, she was more than a full second ahead of the competition.

After their victory yesterday during the opening day, this time there was a 2nd place for Schepers' compatriot Estee Bomeré with her 9-year-old mare Chiquita van 't Ameldonk Z (Cicero Z x Diamant de Semilly), who was bred by her father Bart Bomeré. The duo managed to set a time of 24.82 seconds in the 2nd phase and with that they had to settle for the first place of honor this time. And also in this class we got an all-female podium with the Dutch lady rider Nina Aspers in 3rd place. She managed to finish in 26.22 seconds with her homebred 7-year-old mare Zarina Z (Zapatero VDL x Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve).
