A few weeks after helping the Spanish team to victory with two clear rounds at the Nations Cup in Deauville, France, Spanish rider Mariano Martinez Bastida and his 15-year-old gelding Belano Vd Wijnhoeve Z managed to jump into the spotlight again last weekend! Martinez Bastida and Belano Vd Wijnhoeve Z, a son of Berlin and Darco from the stud farm of Danny De Cuyper, competed at the four-star competition of Casas Novas in La Coruña and were the winners of the 1.50m main class there on Saturday evening. After a clear first round, they also managed to keep it neatly clear in the 'Winning Round' and with a finishing time of 35.61 seconds, they were almost one and a half seconds ahead of the competition.
But also the2nd place in this section was coloured blue and yellow, and for that Belgian rider Constant van Paesschen took care of it with the 10-year-old mare Kannavara Z, a daughter of Kannan and Contender from the breeding farm of Dave Blyau. Van Paesschen and Kannavara Z, also good for 6th place in the 1.45m class on Friday during the opening day, also managed to go flawlessly in both rounds, but they needed 37.07 seconds to complete their 'Winning Round'. French rider Roger Yves Bost with the 14-year-old grey stallion Cassius Clay VDV Z (Calvino Z x Wolfgang - B: George van de Velden) and van Paesschen's compatriot Emilie Conter with the 10-year-old chestnut mare Trixie Z (Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z x Regilio - B: Hugo De Witte) were still good for 4th and 6th place respectively in this class.
Who also managed to place twice in La Coruña were Spanish rider Ismael Garcia Roque and the 9-year-old chestnut gelding Brazilia DK Z, a son of By Ceira d'Ick and Argentinus bred in France by EARL Haras d'Ick. Ismael Garcia Roque and Brazilia DK Z immediately started their competition well on Friday with a 6th place during the 1.50m main class and a day later they managed to secure another 3rd place during the 1.45m high speed class.
During that 1.50m class on Thursday, French rider Simon Delestre managed to secure another podium place with the 9-year-old stallion Crack d'Aiguilly Z, the breeding product of Olivier Perreau combining the blood of Comme Il Faut with that of Nabab de Rêve. Both in the basic round and the jump-off they produced a flawless round and this performance earned them 3rd place in the standings.
Last but not least, in La Coruña, Irish rider Billy Twomey also managed to jump to a top ranking with the 16-year-old stallion Chat Botte E.D., the son of Casall and Darco who was born Chat Botte du Ruisseau Z to breeder André Vandepapeliere. In the CSI4* GP on Sunday afternoon, Twomey and Chat Botte E.D. managed to put the2nd fastest time on the scoreboard in 41.79 seconds in the second and decisive round, but a jumping fault on the way ultimately kept them off the podium and made them settle for 4th place in the standings.
