New World Cup victory for Philipp Weishaupt and Coby 8

More than a month after their victory at the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup at Casas Novas in La Coruña, Spain, German rider Philipp Weishaupt and his Contagio Z son Coby 8 added another World Cup victory to their record last weekend!
Along with many other top European riders, Weishaupt travelled to Qatar last week for the opening week of the Doha Tour 2025. On Friday evening, the CSI4*-W FEI World Cup in the oil state was on the cards, with Ludger Beerbaum's team taking the top prize. Once again, Weishaupt was able to rely on his top 15-year-old Coby 8, the son of our grey stallion Contagio Z and Escudo I, who was bred in Germany by Jürgen Geffken and with whom Weishaupt has already amassed an impressive record in recent years. Weishaupt and Coby 8 were one of nine combinations who managed to clear the 1.55m long basic round and secured a place in the jump-off. In the jump-off, the successful duo also managed to stay clear and with a time of 40.47 seconds they were more than half a second ahead of the rest of the field.
In addition to Philippe Weishaupt and Coby 8's victory in Doha last weekend, there was also success for an offspring of our chestnut stallion Epleaser van 't Heike Z. Austrian rider Gerfried Puck took care of that with the 13-year-old mare Equitron Melody Vd Smidshoeve, a breeding product of Hugo Stevens who combined the blood of Epleaser van 't Heike Z with that of Thunder van de Zuuthoeve. Puck and Equitron Melody Vd Smidshoeve managed to put in a flawless performance in both the 1.45m Longines Ranking class on Friday and Saturday, resulting in 3rd and2nd place respectively.
Of course, there were also several Zangersheide-bred horses that managed to jump into the limelight in Doha, one of which was the 13-year-old mare E-Maitresse TVH Z, a daughter of Emerald van 't Ruytershof and Quidam's Rubin bred by Tim Van Hal. Saddled by British rider Millie Allen, part of Karel Cox's team, E-Maitresse TVH Z managed to finish 7th in the standings at both the CSI4*-W FEI World Cup on Friday and the CSI4* Grand Prix on Saturday.
Another notable combination in the CSI4* competition was Portuguese rider Duarte Seabra with the also 13-year-old gelding Van Halen Z, a son of Vigo d'Arsouilles and Canturo bred in Germany by Guido Sperveslage. Seabra and Van Halen Z were already good for 9th and 10th place during the 1.45m high Longines Ranking Tests on Thursday and Friday, but achieved their best result during the 1.45m high Longines Ranking Test on Saturday afternoon. A clear round then earned them 3rd place in the rankings.
But also the 4th place during this 1.45m class on Saturday coloured blue and yellow and that was done by Spanish rider Mariano Martinez Bastida with his 16-year-old gelding Belano vd Wijnhoeve Z, the breeding product of Danny De Cuyper who crossed the blood of Berlin with that of Darco. They too could not be faulted during this speed class.
CSI2* competition
Besides the CSI4* competition, a CSI2* competition also took place in Doha and in it, too, Marion Martinez Bastida managed to ensure success with one of his Zangersheide horses. Indeed, in the 1.45m Longines Ranking class on Thursday, he jumped to a podium place with the 12-year-old stallion Quark de Preuilly Z, a son of Quaprice du Bois Margot and Cento bred in France by Soc. Fermiere de Preuilly. During this class against the clock, Martinez Bastida and Quark de Preuilly Z kept all the bars neatly in the reels, resulting in a nice2nd place in the standings.
Finally, Millie Allen also managed to jump twice in the CSI2* competition with the 9-year-old grey gelding Clearround IL Mondo Z, a son of Comme Il Faut and Clearway bred by Tim Naessens. Allen and Clearround IL Mondo Z competed in three 1.45m classes, securing a 6th and a 10th place.
