Tomorrow the FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses will begin in Zangersheide. Today the Belgian Championship for seniors began and after the first qualification Maverick Van Lent and Forever du Givre (b. Vigo d'Arsouilles) are in the lead. The 25-year-old rider from Haras de Laubry was convincingly the fastest with 64.98seconds. Thibault Philippaerts (Obama de la Linière, Marius Claudius) placed second in 65.57seconds. He finished 10/100seconds faster than the Belgian champion of 2023, Gilles Thomas (Luna vh Dennehof, Prince vd Wolfsakker) who crossed the finish line in third place.

Three-time Belgian champion Jos Verlooy (Killossery Konfusion, Livello) is tentatively in fourth place, followed by Jan Claeys (Judy vd Beekhoek, Wandor vd Mispelaere) and Thibeau Spits (King Van Essene, Calido), who finished second in the BK twice in recent years. The Belgian Olympic team was also present at Zangersheide. Wilm Vermeir (Magic van 't Hulgenorde Z, Midas vh Endhouse) got a slight fault on the water and on the last obstacle. This put him in 28th place. Jérôme Guery (Careca LS Elite, Carusso La Silla) dropped one bar and is in 22nd place. Pieter Devos (Nascar van 't Siamshof, Emilion) and Niels Bruynseels (Nauwsika vd Pereboom, Thunder vd Zuuthoeve), regulars in the national team and seasoned 5* riders, are in tenth and twelfth place after the first round.
