After the foal championships in Germany and the Netherlands, last Sunday it was time for the Zangersheide Foal Championship 2024 on French soil. Just like the Z-France stallion selection in March, this third foal championship of the year took place in the beautiful accommodation of Pôle Hippique in Deauville. Starting at 10am, exactly 40 foals were presented throughout the day to our expert jury, with Heinz Meyer joined this time by Frenchman Eric Levallois. The foals presented were subjected to their critical eye and then judged on the well-known criteria of correctness, movement, type, general impression and dam line.
Filly foals
Traditionally, the fillies were the first to make their appearance in the ring and a total of 19 foals were presented in this series. Winning in this was the filly Kept Hope de Mitzrael Z, a daughter of Kept Secret De L'Amitié Z and Herald III bred by Emilie Legros and Guillaume Dubot. The grandmother of this Kept Hope de Mitzrael Z is also the dam of the grey gelding Vertigo du Desert, the son of Mylord Carthago and one of Brazilian rider Luciana Diniz's top horses.
2nd place in this series for fillies was reserved for the filly Cuma Bella de Will Z, a breeding product of EURL C. Eole who combined the blood of the legendary grey stallion Cumano with that of Baloubet du Rouet. Dam Baltika des Cotis herself jumped at 1.45m level with Frenchman Alix Ragot and is also the full sister of Hans-Dieter Dreher's Grand Prix horse Vestmalle des Cotis and a half-sister of VDL Groep Urane De Talma (Argentinus). She in turn jumps at the highest level with Dutch rider Leopold van Asten.
Furthermore, the filly Classy Or Aura D'Aramoon Z also managed to achieve a top-3 ranking during this series for fillies. Classy Or Aura D'Aramoon Z was bred by Emmanuelle Raux and is a daughter of Comthago VDL combined with Monsieur De Saussay.
Stallion foals
After the series of fillies, it was then the turn of 21 colts to give their best and, as in the Netherlands, it was a descendant of our chestnut stallion Aganix du Seigneur Z who managed to convince our jury the most. Indeed, victory went to the colt Athletix des Flagues Z, a son of Aganix du Seigneur Z and Cornet Obolensky bred by Frederic Lavoinne. The granddam of this Athletix des Flagues Z is the Darco mare Panama du Seigneur and we know her first and foremost as the dam of the Grand Prix horses Vivaldi du Seigneur (Chellano Z) and Boyfriend du Seigneur (Calvaro Z), but also as the dam of upcoming talent King Of Panama Hero Z (Kassander van 't Roosakker Z) and his full sister Kassanah Hero Z. The latter has already made her mark in recent years with several offspring sold at our Zangersheide Auctions.
In this series for colts Prada L'Amaurial Z finished 2nd. Prada L'Amaurial Z was bred by Frederique Ornada and is a son of Pegase van 't Ruytershof combined with the blood of Dayton Sitte. This Prada L'Amaurial Z is a nephew of the now 6-year-old gelding Mariano Sitte (Fidelgo du Houssoit), who was sold for 50,000 euros through our Zangersheide Young Horse Auction just over a year ago.
Finally, 3rd place was taken by the colt Alehop des Jenkins Z, a son the French stallion Armitages Boy and Allegreto from the breeding of Leslie Jenkins and coming from a true performance line. Indeed, Alehop des Jenkins is a grandson of the legendary mare Qerly Chin (Chin Chin) and so closely related to numerous Grand Prix horses.
