The United States not only enjoyed the five-star competition at Greenwich last weekend, but there was also international action at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington over the past few days. This three-star competition was part of the prestigious Split Rock Jumping Tour and turned out to be another successful weekend for the colours of Zangersheide.
The absolute highlight of the weekend was of course the CSI3* Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon and it got a Zangersheide horse at the top of the leaderboard. It was American rider Lacey Gilbertson who jumped to victory with the 9-year-old mare Loulou M.P.S. Z, a daughter of Böckmanns Lord Pezi and Semper Fi 4, bred in Germany by Marc Pierzina. Gilbertson and Loulou M.P.S. Z were among the six combinations who managed to clear the basic round by Brazilian course builder Anderson Lima and his team, earning them a place in the jump-off. In the jump-off, they had the advantage of being the very last combination to enter the ring and with a clear round in 37.47 seconds they wrote this CSI3* Grand Prix to their name.
Lacey Gilberton: "Loulou is nine years old and I have had her for just under six months now. Only in spring she jumped her first CSI3* Grand Prix here at the Kentucky Horse Park and two more since then. She placed in all three and today we took the win! She is very special to me and I am very happy to have her in my stables!"
On Thursday, Spanish rider Francisco Goyoaga Mollet managed to ensure blue/yellow success by jumping to a podium place with the 13-year-old mare The Diamant Rose Z, a daughter of Toulon and Jaunty Daredevil, bred in the Netherlands by J. Kemps. In a class against the clock, they rushed to the finish line in 61.85 seconds, giving them a well-deserved2nd place.
Besides his second place, however, Goyoaga Mollet also took third in this class. This time, he sent the Kassander van 't Roosakker Z offspring Poker Face van 't Hagenhof (bred by Patrick Laheyne) to the finish in 62.23 seconds, thus also giving 3rd place a Zangersheide touch!
