GP silver for Kent Farrington and Toulayna in Toronto

On European soil, people could enjoy the ^12th stage of the Longines Global Champions Tour in London last weekend, but a five-star competition also took place on the other side of the ocean over the past few days with the Major League Show Jumping in Toronto, Canada. During the CSI5* GP on Saturday evening, American rider Kent Farrington managed to ensure a smashing performance there with his 10-year-old mare Toulayna, the daughter of Toulon and Parco who was given the name Toulayna van het Bloesemhof Z at birth by breeder Jasper Doucé. Farrington and Toulayna stayed clear in the 1.60m basic round, making them one of seven combinations to qualify for the jump-off. In it, they managed to ensure another flawless performance and with a finishing time of 40.57 seconds, they eventually secured^2nd place in the standings.

Another notable combination in Toronto was Farrington's compatriot Alessandra Volpi with her 9-year-old mare Candy Luck Z, a daughter of Comme Il Faut and Canturo bred by Dirk Geerinckx. Volpi and Candy Luck Z immediately started their competition well on Thursday by jumping to a top ranking in the 1.50m main class. Neither in the first round nor in the jump-off could they be caught out and this also earned them a^2nd place in the rankings. But also during the CSI5* GP on Saturday, Volpi and Candy Luck Z were again in good form and were among the 7 combinations that managed to advance to the jump-off. Once again they managed to keep all the rails in the scoops and their finishing time of 43.83 seconds was good for ^4th place in the standings this time.

On Friday, Colombian rider Roberto Teran Tafur managed to secure a place on the podium with the also 9-year-old grey stallion Iron Maiden, a son of Clarimo ASK and Kashmir Van Schuttershof, who was born Cadans van de Ijzervallei Z to breeder Titus Vereecke and with whom Teran Tafur won ^3rd place at the Summer Tour in Valkenswaard late last month. In the 1.50m class against the clock, Teran Tafur and Iron Maiden sped to the finish in 64.88 seconds, which this time earned them^2nd place in the standings. A day later, the duo also confirmed this performance with ^8th place in the 1.45m class.

In addition to the^2nd place for Roberto Teran Tafur and Iron Maiden, we also saw two other Zangersheide horses in the top 10 of the ranking during that 1.50m class on Friday. These included a ^5th place for British rider Samuel Hutton with the 10-year-old mare Melusina BVL Z (Mylord Carthago x Air Jordan Z - B: H.L.M. van Lier) and a ^7th place for Dutch rider Johnny Pals with the 13-year-old mare Zarkava Hero Z (Zandor Z x Calvaro Z - B: Luc Henry). They too could not be caught out on a fault during this main class of the day.

Finally, the opening day on Thursday also saw a podium place for Irish rider Dylan Daly and the 14-year-old mare Cinderella Z, a daughter of Chacco Blue and Julio Mariner XX from the breeding farm of Bram Coosemans in Belgium. In the 1.50m main class, Daly and Cinderella Z kept it neatly clear in both the basic round and the jump-off, leaving them just behind Volpi and Candy Luck Z in ^3rd place in the standings.
