Last weekend, most of our attention undoubtedly went to the third edition of The Zangersheide International at Sentower Park, but in addition a lot of other international competitions took place around the world in which again numerous Z horses gave the best of themselves. One such event was a five-star competition at the beautiful Longines Arena of Al Shaqab in Doha, where both the CSI5* Grand Prix and the CSI3* Grand Prix became successful for our blue/yellow colours.
The CSI5* Grand Prix on Saturday afternoon was, of course, the absolute highlight of the weekend and in it, Saudi rider Khaled Abdulrahman Almobty and the 10-year-old mare Diana du Plevau Z, a daughter of our stallion Dieu Merci Van T&L Z and Kashmir Van Schuttershof bred by Marc Palm, were in the lead. Almoby and Diana du Pleavau Z were one of 11 combinations who managed to clear the 1.60m-high basic round run by arena builder Peter Schumacher and his team, securing a spot for the jump-off. In it, they again managed to leave all obstacles untouched and a chrono time of 42.91 seconds earned them a fantastic2nd place in the standings.

Also in this CSI5* Grand Prix, British rider Millie Allen managed to jump to a top 5 ranking with the 13-year-old mare E-Maitresse Tvh Z, a daughter of Emerald van 't Ruytershof and Quidam's Rubin out of Tim Van Hal's breeding. Allen and E-Maitresse Tvh Z were good for a 7th place in the 1.50m class on Thursday and for a 3rd place in the 1.45m class on Friday and confirmed this good form by claiming 4th place in the Grand Prix.
Another notable combination in the classes of the CSI5* competition was Portuguese rider Duarte Seabra with the 13-year-old gelding Van Halen Z, a son of Vigo d'Arsouilles and Canturo bred in Germany by Guido Sperveslage. Seabra and Van Halen Z competed three times over the past few days in Doha and also managed to claim a place in the top five of the standings three times. On Thursday, they started their competition with a 3rd place in the 1.45m class, followed by a 5th place in the 1.50m class on Friday and a great2nd place in the 1.45m class on Saturday morning.
French rider Ines Joly also managed to place twice with the 10-year-old stallion Crack d'Aiguilly Z, a breeding product of Olivier Perreau who combined the blood of Comme Il Faut with that of Nabab de Rêve. Joly and Crack d'Aiguilly Z made their first appearance on Friday with a 6th place in the 1.50m class before closing their competition on Saturday morning with a 5th place in the 1.45m class.
Then, in the 1.45m class on Friday, there was another podium place for Ukrainian rider Anastasia Bondarieva with the 10-year-old mare Virunga H Z, a daughter of Vigo d'Arsouilles again combined this time with Caretano Z. Bondarieva safely piloted the S.C.R.I S.Ky Horses' breeding product to the finish line, which also resulted in a2nd place.
CSI3* competition
Besides the CSI5* competition, the past few days in Doha have also seen jumping at three-star level, and we also saw a Z-horse shine on the podium during the CSI3* Grand Prix. That honour fell to the 15-year-old gelding Winnetou de la Hamente Z, a son of Winningmood van de Arenberg and Socrate de Chivre from the Emmanuel Wera stud. Winnetou de la Hamente Z formed a combination with Swedish rider Evelina Tovek for many years, until Liechtenstein rider Jennifer Hochstadter took over the reins at the end of last year. Hochstadter and Winnetou de la Hamente Z started their show in Doha with a 10th place in the 1.45m class on Thursday and were one of the seven combinations to advance to the jump-off in the CSI3* Grand Prix. In it they again managed to keep all the bars neatly in the reels and this performance earned them 3rd place in the standings.

With two resounding victories, it was also a particularly successful weekend for Spanish rider Mariano Martinez Bastida and the 12-year-old stallion Quark de Preuilly Z, a son of Quaprice Bois Margot and Dobel's Cento bred in France by Soc. Fermiere de Preuilly. In both the 1.40m class on Friday and Saturday's, Martinez Bastida and Quark de Preuilly Z came out strongest and managed to outdo the competition.

Finally, there were also two combinations who managed a 4th place within the classes of the CSI3* competition. For Millie Allen and the 9-year-old grey gelding Clearround IL Mondo Z (Comme Il Faut x Clearway - B : Tim Naessens), this was during the CSI3* World Cup on Friday, while Ines Joly and the 8-year-old gelding Come On Z (Comme Il Faut x VDL Zirocco Blue N.O.P. managed to achieve their top 5 ranking during the 1.40m class on Saturday.
