Irish rider Daniel Coyle and his 14-year-old top mare Legacy put in another great performance yesterday! Exactly one week after the successful duo impressed with a win at the Leipzig World Cup, they have now added the Amsterdam World Cup to their record!
Coyle and Legacy, a daughter of Chippendale Z and Bon Ami, who was born Chavantele Z to her breeder Romain Rotty, have already put in some strong performances in recent weeks, and yesterday they confirmed their good form once again. At the World Cup competition in Amsterdam, they were one of seven combinations who managed to clear the basic round run by Dutch track builders Quintin Maertens and Louis Koninckx and thus qualified for the jump-off. In that jump-off, they came back into the ring as the penultimate combination and with a finishing time of 35.45 seconds, they managed to outclass the competition with a lot of conviction!
However, Coyle and Legacy were not the only combination to ensure blue/yellow success in this 12th round of the season yesterday. On 9th place we saw Swedish rider Angelica Augustsson Zanotelli with the 14-year-old Epleaser Z offspring Kalinka van de Nachtegaele (Epleaser Z x Cicero Z - B: Marcel Jacobs) and on 10th place the French rider Julien Anquetin with the 11-year-old grey stallion Z Ice Cube Z (Zacharov TN x Casco - F: P.J. Amendt). Both Augustsson Zanotelli with Kalinka van de Nachtegael and Anquetin with Z Ice Cube Z did manage to keep all the pooles in the scoops, but 1 penalty point for time unfortunately kept them out of the jump-off.
On Saturday evening, the Grand Prix of Amsterdam was the absolute highlight of the day and in it a podium place was reserved for Dutch rider Lars Kersten with the 10-year-old stallion Funky Fred Marienshof Z, a son of Fantomas de Muze and Libero H, who was bred by Stal Marienshof. Kersten and Funky Fred Marienshof Z were one of the 11 combinations who managed to advance to the jump-off, where they secured 3rd place in the standings after another clear round.
On Friday, both the Belgian rider Gilles Thomas and the 12-year-old stallion Feromas van Beek Z (Fantomas de Muze x Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve - B: Guido Herrijgers) and the Dutch rider Harrie Smolders and the also 12-year-old stallion Escape Z (Emerald van 't Ruytershof x Heartbreaker - B: Willem van Hoof and Yvonne Copal) managed to jump to 2nd place. Thomas and Feromas van Beek Z did so in the 1.45m class, while Smolders and Escape Z secured their 2nd place in the 1.50m GP Qualifier. With a clear jump-off in 35.45 seconds, they were exactly a full second short of victory.
In addition to the World Cup, however, there was also a 1.50m class on the programme yesterday for the CSI5* competition, and here the Irish rider Michael Duffy managed to jump to a top 5 ranking with the 12-year-old gelding Claptonn Mouche, a son of HH Conrad Z and Elan de la Cour bred in France by GAEC Mouche. In a 7-strong jump-off, Duffy and Claptonn Mouche managed to set the 3rd fastest time, but a pole on the way meant they eventually had to settle for 5th place in the standings. In the classes for the CSIU25 competition, Dutch rider Fleur Holleman jumped into the limelight with the 12-year-old gelding Cataque du Haut Breil, also an offspring of HH Conrad Z combined with Indoctro. Holleman and Cataque du Haut Breil got off to an excellent start on Thursday, winning the 1.40m opening class, and on Saturday they were good for a 6th place in the 1.45m CSIU25 GP.
Finally, in the Dutch capital, there was also success for the blood of our grey stallion Contagio Z thanks to Brazilian rider Yuri Mansur with the 16-year-old mare Catch Me Marathon, a daughter of Contagio Z and Werhter bred in Germany by Heinz Tiedje Jr. Mansur and Catch Me Marathon were good for 8th place during the 1.45m-high speed class on Saturday and followed that up with 7th place during the 1.50m class yesterday.
