Last weekend no international show took place on Belgian soil, but there was some serious show jumping in the Netherlands with two international events on the calendar. One of those was the CSI3* competition of Indoor Friesland in Leeuwarden, where some Z-horses had a particularly strong weekend.
The most eye-catching name among them was that of the 9-year-old mare Chella II De Laubry Z, bred in the Netherlands by Wil Schellekens. Chella II De Laubry Z is a daughter of Casalito, combined with Galoubet A, and descends from the same dam line as the Grand Prix horses Capri DV Z (Cardento VDL x Cicero Z) and Casual DV Z (Cornet Obolensky x Cicero Z), both bred by top Belgian rider Pieter Devos. Under the saddle of the Dutch rider Tom Schellekens, Chella II De Laubry Z appeared three times in the ring in Leeuwarden the past few days and managed to get an absolute top ranking each time. Having already started their show on Thursday with a great2nd place in the 1.45m class, the duo put the competition aside on both Friday and Saturday and took victory in two 1.40m classes.
Tom Schellekens: "We bred, trained and even saddled Chella ourselves. She has a fantastic attitude and rarely makes a mistake. She started her sport career a bit late because she had two foals first. Now she is competing at 1.45-level, and she is doing great. Just a fortnight ago she won the Grand Prix in Herning."
Also two wins were for Swedish rider Ebba Danielsson and her 13-year-old mare T-Gavoli Z, the daughter of Twister de la Pomme and Calvaro Z, who was bred in the Netherlands by G.J,A. Moerings and whom Danielsson managed to win 14 international classes earlier this year. Danielsson and T-Gavoli Z also showed in Leeuwarden that they are always to be reckoned with, as they managed to outclass the competition in both the 1.40m opening class on Thursday and the 1.40m speed & handiness class on Friday!
Dutch rider Kevin Jochems also managed to secure three top placings in Leeuwarden with his 9-year-old mare Looks Good de Liebri Z, a daughter of Lector van den Bisschop and Bentley van de Heffinck, bred by Lieven Bruyneel of De Liebri BVBA. In the speed & handiness class on Friday, they just missed out on victory with a great2nd place, and in both the 1.40m class on Thursday and Saturday they finished in 3rd place.
In the 1.50m main class on Thursday evening, Dutchman Loewie Joppen jumped to a top 5 ranking with the 13-year-old gelding Havel van de Wolfsakker Z, the breeding product of B. van der Kloet, who combines the blood of Hos d'O with that of Libero H. In both the basic round and the jump-off, Joppen and Havel van de Wolfsakker Z kept clear, resulting in a creditable 5th place. In doing so, they did just a little better than their compatriot Pim Mulder and the 11-year-old gelding Viktor Z (Verdi TN x Caretano Z), who were good for 6th place in the standings. Mulder and Viktor Z managed to ensure the fastest time in the jump-off, but a mistake on the way unfortunately kept them from victory.
Finally, there was also success in Leeuwarden for the blood of the black stallion Solid Gold Z, thanks to German Tim Rieskamp-Göddeking and the 9-year-old mare Sanella 6 (Solid Gold Z x All Pleasur - B: Frank Rieger). Rieskamp-Göddeking and Sanella 6 started their show on Thursday with 6th place in the 1.40m opening class and secured 4th place in the 1.50m Longines Ranking Test a day later.
