After the last groups of foals, yesterday on the final day of our Z Festival, the track was cleared for the 3-year-old horses to make their appearance in the Indoor Arena. A total of 29 horses appeared in the ring before our expert judges, where they were judged on technique, scope and overall impression after a round of free jumping. Each of these criteria earned a point out of 10, bringing the total score to 30 points.
Victory went convincingly to the chestnut mare Catharina de Reve Z, a daughter of GFE Candy de Nantuel and Montebello La Silla bred by Ecurie Valerie Rohmer EARL and owned by Egbert Schep. The granddam of this Catharine de Reve Z is the mare Santa Catarina LS La Silla (Santo Domingo La Silla), who herself jumped at the very highest level with Canadian rider Bretton Chad. Catharine de Reve Z managed to leave a particularly strong impression yesterday, as she was awarded a score of 9.00 by the judges on all three criteria.
Second place went to the bay stallion Chivas Plappecourt Z, a son of our grey stallion Cicero Z and Kannan who was bred by and is also owned by Guillaume Steinmetz. Chivas Plappecourt Z received an 8.50 from the jury for technique, an 8.80 for scope and again an 8.50 for general impression, thus making a total of 25.80.
On the third place we saw another offspring of Cicero Z thanks to the chestnut stallion Chester du Raiwet Z, where breeder Iris Degros combined the blood of Cicero Z with that of Cashman. The granddam of Chester du Raiwet Z is the mare Nurielle van ter Moude (Major de la Cour), who we also know as the dam of the GP horses Ultimo van ter Moude (Capitol I) and Bow House Rubis (Kannan) and also as the great-granddam of the stallion Bond Jamesbond de Hay (Diamant de Semilly). Chester du Raiwet Z was awarded a score of 25.30 out of 30 by the judges, including 8.50 for technique, 8.40 for scope and 8.20 for overall impression.
