Last weekend we were able to enjoy a lot of international competitions on European soil, but of course we were also looking forward to seeing how the Zangersheide horses fared during the second week of the famous Winter Equestrian Festival at Wellington International.
One of the horses competing there was the 13-year-old stallion Agana van het Gerendal Z, the son of our chestnut stallion Aganix du Seigneur Z and Topas who was bred in the Netherlands by the Verhey family of Gerendal Stables. Agana van het Gerendal Z has been a strong combination with American rider Lillie Keenan for several years and they proved that good bond once again last weekend with two top performances. After the successful duo had already finished 6th in the 1.50m class on Friday, on Sunday they were one of the 9 combinations that managed to qualify for the jump-off during the CSI3* GP. In that jump-off they managed to deliver another flawless performance and with a finishing time of 39.17 seconds they secured 4th place in the standings.
The victory during that 1.50m class on Friday was for British rider Amanda Derbyshire with the 12-year-old stallion Otto BH, a son of Norton d'Eole and Toulon, who was born as No Mercy Van 't Kamerveld Z to breeders Patteet and Van Rasbeeck. In a jump-off for which 19 combinations managed to qualify, Derbyshire and Otto BH finished in 39.85 seconds, putting this class on their record of achievements. During the 1.50m class on Saturday, the duo also managed to finish in 10th place. Unfortunately, one time penalty in the first round kept them out of the jump-off.
Who also managed to secure a victory in Wellington last weekend was American rider Ansgar Hotgers Jr. with the 13-year-old gelding Kennedy Z, a breeding product of his father Ansgar Holtgerseen who combined the blood of Kashmir Van Schuttershof with that of Drosselklang II. Hotgers Jr. and Kennedy were the winners of the CSIU25 1.45m class on Saturday, where their clear round in 57.83 seconds put them over a second and a half ahead of the competition.
