Next to the international two-star show in Sentower Park, a second international show took place on Belgian soil last weekend and more specifically in Hippisch Centrum Bonheiden. The CSI2* GP on Saturday evening was of course the absolute highlight of the weekend and in that class there was a podium place for the Belgian rider Thibeau Spits with the 8-year-old stallion Carlo Van Klapscheut Z, a breeding product of the Van Rossem family who combines the blood of Carlow van de Helle with that of our grey stallion Cicero Z. Spits and Carlo Van Klapscheut Z remained clear in the basic round and were so one of the 9 combinations that managed to qualify for the jump-off. They managed to repeat that flawless performance in the jump-off and with a finishing time of 42.89 seconds they secured a 2nd place in the rankings.
A day earlier, the Dutch rider Siebe Leemans secured a victory with the 8-year-old stallion Gem Vd Riloo Z, a son of Gemini XX and Concorde who was bred by J.H. Van Loon Eugeen and with whom Leemans already finished 8th during the 1.40m class on Thursday. During the 1.40m main class on Friday, Leemans and Gem Vd Riloo Z managed to keep it clear in both the basic round and in the jump-off and with a finishing time of 36.58 seconds they had a lead of more than 2 full seconds over the competition.
But also the other podium places during this 1.40m class colored blue and yellow, with in 2nd place Belgian Champion Gilles Thomas and the 9-year-old stallion Elfra Van Beek Z, a son of El Salvador and Vagabond de la Pomme, who was bred by Guido Herrijgers. Thomas and Elfra Van Beek also managed to keep it clear twice, but crossed the finishline in the jump-off in 38.71 seconds. The third combination that reached the podium was Thomas' compatriot Roy Hanlon with the 10-year-old mare Easytop van de Kromsteeg Z (Emerald van' t Ruytershof x Parco – F: Ann Van Putte), the full sister of the stallion Sea Coast Enjoy van de Kromsteeg Z who we know from under the saddle of the Belgian lady rider Gudrun Patteet. Hanlon and Easytop van de Kromsteeg Z finished in 39.31 seconds in that jump-off.
Another combination that jumped into the picture was the Brazilian rider Thiago Ribas da Costa with the 10-year-old chestnut mare Catharina W&W Z, a daughter of Centurio 22 and Griseldi who was bred by Wilfried Rutten. During both the 1.40m class on Thursday and the 1.35m class on Sunday, Ribas da Costa and Catharina W&W Z managed a clear round and secured a 3rd place in the rankings. During the 1.35m class on Sunday, 2nd place went to the Belgian rider Jules Van Hoydonck with the also 10-year-old mare Elize Z (Elvis Ter Putte x Prince Royal – B: Kris Van Kerckhove).
